As many of you know, HQ has directed us to split our unit into a League Cadet Training ship and a Sea Cadet unit. The Sea Cadet unit will retain the HMCM Willam R. Charette name. The name of the League Cadet unit is up to us.
Optimally, it should be the name of a famous person, ship or event with some connection to the Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines, etc. In addition, it would be beneficial if the name has some association with Maryland or Montgomery County or places near where the unit drills. It would also be desirable if current or upcoming US Navy ship was similarly named. Although Cadets of Volunteers may suggest any name the only restriction is that it cannot be the name of a current Sea Cadet Unit.
After we have a sufficient list of suggested names, CO will filter list down to best 4 or 5 suggestions and we will hold a vote to pick the new name.
